ISCKON ban not on govt agenda: Advisers

fApparently brushing aside the idea of banning ISCKON, a pro-Hindu religious platform, two advisers of the interim administration on Thursday said there are no discussions inside the government to ban the organisation.

“There may be demands for it but we think that an organisation should not take responsibility of the misdeeds of an individual,” said adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan while responding to a question.

She was briefing the press on the meeting of the Council of the Advisers.

She also pointed out that the organisation itself announced that it has no relation with Chinmoy, an ISCON follower.

Asked on what charge Chinmoy was arrested, Adviser Mahfuz Alam, who was also present in the briefing, said he was arrested in connection with a case. “The details could be revealed after the completion of the probe,” he added.

Rizwana said religious harmony is instilled in the values of people of Bangladesh and no conspiracy or provocation can harm them.

She urged the people to remain alert to such provocations.

Mahfuz said leaders of BNP and Jamaal-e-Islami met the chief adviser on Wednesday and Thursday respectively and they made some specific proposals to resist the evil designs of conspirators to ham the independence and sovereignty of the country.

The chief adviser stressed the need for unity among political parties to ensure that none can jeopardise the goals of this government, which he termed the outcome of a successful revolution.

He said that elections in the country will be held when reforms will be visible.

Responding to a question Rizwana said though the cabinet discussed the issue of security threat against the coordinators of the July Revolution, no decision was taken in this regard.

She urged all not to take destructive path to realise any demand.

“There are ways to resolve demand through discussions,” she said urging all to press their demands in peaceful means.

Earlier, in the evening a delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami, led by its Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, called on Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus at the state guest house Jamuna.

After the meeting, the Jamaat chief told the press that their party want elections after completion of “minimum reforms”.

He also urged the government to take action against those who are engaged in anti-state activities.
