Students and teachers of Jagannath University ended their protest on Friday night following assurances from University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof SMA Faiz that the government had accepted their four-point demand.
Prof Rais Uddin, general secretary of the JnU Teachers' Association, made the announcement around 8:30pm at the protest site in Kakrail. He said all academic activities at the university would resume on Saturday.
Earlier in the evening, around 7:00pm, Prof Faiz informed demonstrators that a resolution had been reached to meet their demands, in coordination with the chief adviser, education adviser, planning adviser, and other senior officials.
The UGC chairman, accompanied by the Jagannath University vice-chancellor, later ended the students' hunger strike by offering them water.
