Justice Zubayer to head search committee for new Election Commission

Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury of the Supreme Court's Appellate Division has been appointed as the head of the search committee for forming the new Election Commission (EC). Justice AKM Asaduzzaman of the High Court has also been nominated as a member of the committee.
Following the recommendations of Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, the names of these two judges have been sent to the Cabinet Division by the Supreme Court administration.
According to the law passed in the National Parliament regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners, the President forms the search committee. The committee, comprising six members, is led by a judge from the Appellate Division.
The search committee will propose the names of ten candidates for the formation of the EC, considering the qualifications as defined in the law. From this list, the President will appoint five members to constitute the new Election Commission.
The Cabinet Division will provide administrative support to the search committee. The committee is required to submit the names of ten candidates to the President within 15 working days of its formation.
