A medical team has kept BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia under ‘close observation’ following her admission at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of Evercare Hospital in the early hours of Saturday.
Khaleda Zia’s personal physician Prof AZM Zahid Hossain said: “Madam’s treatment is ongoing under close observation of the medical board monitoring her all the time at the hospital. There is nothing more to add at this moment."
The medical team, led by Prof Shahabuddin Talukder from Evercare, includes 11 specialist physicians, including Prof FM Siddiqui, Prof Shamsul Arefin and Prof AQM Mohsin, reports bdnews24.com.
The BNP chief’s daughter-in-law cardiologist Dr Zubaida Rahman from London, and specialists from the US and Australia are also virtually connected as members of the medical board.
The board, virtually joined by Dr Zubaida Rahman and other foreign physicians, has held several meetings since the night. Measures are being taken following the advice of the board which is reviewing her test results, Zahid said.
He said Khaleda was rushed to Evercare Hospital by an ambulance around 3:30am after suddenly taking ill. The board members, who were prepared earlier, had admitted Khaleda to the CCU and started her treatment.
Khaleda had previously gone to Evercare for medical tests on May 2. Doctors had admitted her to the CCU for two days for treatment at the time.
