Police recovered the hanging body of a Khulna University student from her residence in the city’s Labanchora area on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Mahfuza Afrin Upoma, 23, a third-year student of the Law department and daughter of Md Mahbubur Rahman, a resident of Amir Hossain Lane in Jinnapara.

Quoting locals, police said Upoma went to bed after dinner around 11pm on Sunday.

Family members noticed she was not responding on Monday morning and upon peeking through her room's window found her hanging, reports UNB.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Labanchora Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhiduzzaman said, “Upoma was known to be a bit stubborn. Her parents were aware of her suicidal tendencies and deliberately did not install a ceiling fan in her room. However, she used a scarf to hang herself from a fan hook.”

An unnatural death case was filed with the police station in this regard.

The body will be handed over to the family after all legal formalities, he added.
