The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has imposed a Tk 0.2 million fine on Labaid Specialized Hospital in the capital’s Dhanmondi area for non-compliance with building design regulations.

DSCC Executive Magistrate Jahangir Alam conducted mobile court drives in the Green Road and Dhanmondi areas on Thursday.

During a drive, the court visited a restaurant located on the rooftop of Labaid Specialized Hospital.

Executive Magistrate Md Jahangir Alam stated that the restaurant's construction deviated from the approved design.

He emphasised that such a restaurant was not permitted to be built there.

Furthermore, a gas leakage was detected from a cylinder in the restaurant's kitchen, leading to the imposition of the fine, he added.

This action comes in the wake of heightened scrutiny of building safety measures following the tragic fire incident at Green Cozy Cottage on Bailey Road in Dhaka, which claimed the lives of 46 people.
