LNG terminal closed for 72 hours, gas pressure to fall

A floating LNG terminal used for supplying imported gas to pipelines will remain closed for 72 hours, leading to a drop in the gas supply at the beginning of the new year.

Petrobangla apologised to its customers for the temporary inconvenience in a press statement on Tuesday.

The Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) run by Excelerate Energy will remain closed for 72 hours from 9am on Wednesday, Jan 1, to 9 am on Saturday, Jan 3, for repair and maintenance work, the statement said,

Hence the gas supply will drop nationwide, and gas pressure will temporarily weaken across the country, according to bdnews24.com.

Currently, 2,700 million to 2,800 million cubic feet of gas are supplied to the country per day. The two floating FSRUs supply 800 cubic feet of this amount.

While one FSRU will remain closed, the other one will continue to supply 570 to 580 million cubic feet of gas, the statement said. Hence the supply will drop by 150-180 million cubic feet.

“Some parts of the country will experience low gas pressure as other sectors will have a supply shortage of 50-70 million cubic feet of gas.”
