The weather office has advised all seaports to hoist cautionary signal number 3 due to the possibility of stormy winds caused by a low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal.
Amid severe flooding in several districts in the eastern part of the country, rain is also expected across all divisions, reports bdnews24.com.
Meteorologist Md Bazlur Rashid indicated that heavy rainfall is likely in the Barisal, Khulna, and Chittagong divisions.
The weather forecast of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Sunday said a low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining southern region of Bangladesh, causing the development of deep convective clouds in the northern sea. This may result in squally or stormy winds affecting the northern Bay, coastal areas, and the seaports.
The seaports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been instructed to display cautionary signal number 3.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution.
The forecast also suggests that the rainy conditions could persist until Tuesday, with heavy rainfall expected in Barisal, Khulna, and Chittagong divisions over the next 24 hours.
Moderate rainfall is also likely in many areas of Dhaka and Sylhet, and in some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Mymensingh divisions.
During this period, daytime temperatures in the southern regions of the country may drop by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius, while temperatures in other areas might decrease slightly.
The 48-hour forecast predicts that light to moderate rain with temporary gusty winds may occur in many areas of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions, and in some parts of Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions. Additionally, moderate to heavy rainfall is possible in some areas of the Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong divisions.
The forecast also indicated that day and night temperatures across the country are likely to remain almost unchanged.
In the 24 hours leading up to 6am on Sunday, Dhaka received the highest rainfall of 39 millimetres, while the highest nationwide rainfall of 133 millimetres was recorded in Koyra.
