A nine-year-old resident student of a madrasa in Dhaka was found dead on Monday the campus in unclear circumstances.
He was found dead this morning inside a room used by the principal of madrasa, said police.
The madrasa authorities claimed the boy killed himself while the family says he was murdered, reports bdnews24.com.
The deceased, Hafizur Rahman Kawser, was admitted to the madrasa at Mirpur just two weeks ago.
The body was found on a bed in the room, where Principal Md Zunayed bin Ishaq used to take rest, said Dadan Fakir, OC of Mirpur's Pallabi Police Station.
The boy's father Dulal Khan said the madrasa authorities did not inform him about his son's death.
"I was informed by a local resident and found police already working on the scene when I reached," Dulal said.
Dulal works as a hawker at Dhaka's New Market area. He claimed his son was murdered sometime on Sunday night. "My son can't kill himself. Why would a child do that?"
Police said they were yet to find evidence suggesting suicide.
"Madrasa authorities claimed the boy hanged himself in a bathroom. Some of the students told us that the body was taken to the room used by the principal from there," said Police Inspector Fakir.
He said there were no marks on the throat and neck that hanging victims usually have, but found an injury on the head.
"We have to wait until the autopsy report comes in," said the police officer adding they were interrogating Principal Ishaq.
