Police have arrested a madrasa teacher on charges of raping two students at the institution in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Baitul Atfal Madrasa in Sarishabari Municipality's Satpoa village on Saturday. As word of the incident spread, villagers detained the teacher and demanded that he be brought to justice.
Police and army personnel subsequently went to the scene and arrested the accused, according to Chand Mia, chief of Sarishabari Police Station.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Bazlur Rahman, was an assistant teacher at the madrasa, reports bdnews24.com.
One of the victim's mothers accused Bazlur of sexually abusing her 10-year-old son for two months. The child spoke up about the matter on Saturday and was later taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The other victim, aged 9, had also allegedly been the subject of abuse for the past four months, according to his mother. She demanded justice for the children.
A written complaint has yet to be filed, but police will take legal action once it is received, Chand Mia said.
The detained teacher has not provided any statement on the accusations.
