A 45-year-old man was killed during a clash between protesters and police in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila on Saturday.
The incident took place in the Chonnaparha village of the upazila on Saturday, said Sreepur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Akbar Ali Khan.
The deceased was identified as Jahangir Alam, hailing from Satkhira upazila. Details of his identity were not available immediately. He was a worker at a spinning factory in the same village.
He was a tenant at the house of one landlord Jahangir Alam. According to the landlord, he heard around 3pm that Alam was lying dead on the streets. However, he could not say whether his tenant was shot dead or died of any other injury.
One coordinator for the protesters Israt Jahan claimed that over 100 students were injured in the protest.
Sreepur OC Khan said, “That person might have died after falling to the ground on the streets. It is not possible to say for sure right now how he has died. We are busy.”
