Police Week-2025 has started with the theme 'My Police, My Country, Bangladesh without Discrimination'. This time, the police members placed a series of demands, including the formation of an independent police commission, risk allowance, leave, promotion, posting of husband and wife in the same workplace. Some demands have also been promised. There have been decisions like reducing VIP protocol and cancelling the red carpet in the police.

This information is known by talking to several police officers who participated in the Police Week. Constable Samia Swarna of Dhaka district demanded leave and incentives from the Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus at the inauguration and medal distribution ceremony of the Police Week on Tuesday (April 29), as per a Jaagonews24 report.

Assistant Superintendent of Police at Police Headquarters. Al-Assad claimed to the chief adviser that the police did not want to work under the umbrella of any political party. In this case, the formation of an independent police commission is necessary.

At that time, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus said to the policeman, "I heard some initial statements from you. I realised that a lot of work was unfinished. What we were supposed to do didn't happen. We sat among ourselves once. I felt so bad. I didn't know what kind of situation you had to work in. How difficult your daily life is, how deep it is.

Dr. Yunus said, "We took some decisions immediately, hopefully it has been implemented. I'll find out again how far it went. We will meet again today to create conducive conditions for your work. You should be encouraged to work and the situation is helpful.

Several police officials present at the programme said that the chief adviser patiently listened to the demands of the police and he assured to implement the demands quickly.

Later in the afternoon, Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury held a view-exchange meeting with police officers. There, the policemen raised several other urgent demands.

An officer of the rank of Superintendent of Police present at the event told Jago News that several demands have been placed before the Home Adviser. These include introducing risk allowance from constable to IGP, solving housing problems in police stations and outposts, introducing allowance in training academies, increasing women training centres, posting of policemen (posting husband or wife in the same workplace), amendment of recruitment rules for ASP, setting up traffic boxes in the government and women-friendly toilet facilities for women traffic, improving the quality of divisional police hospitals, proposal to give the budget of the police immediately without delay. The Home Adviser had various proposals, including increasing the force and reducing the working hours, promotion before retirement (from constable to inspector) after serving the same post for a long time.

In response to these demands, the Home Adviser said that all the demands are logical. Steps are being taken to stop the ceiling on giving risk allowance from constables to SIs. As a result, lower-level police officers will get higher risk allowance than before. Initiatives have been taken to provide loans to policemen to buy motorcycles. In the first phase, the loan will be given to SIs and ASIs of the police. The government will also be requested to pay the interest on the loan.

He said the government is thinking of posting subordinate policemen in their larger districts. Similarly, if the husband and wife are two policemen, they will be given priority in posting in the same district. There is a manpower crisis for the police. Therefore, they need to increase manpower in the organizational structure (TO&E).

An officer of the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police, who was present in the exchange of views with the Home Adviser, told the aforementioned news agency, "The Home Adviser has asked VIPs and ministers to reduce the protocol of the police to travel. He also asked the police to cancel the red carpet completely. ’
