Mobile internet services resumed at 3:00 pm across the country on Sunday (July 28) after a 10-day suspension amid deadly violence centring quota reform protests.
However, access to Facebook and TikTok servers remains restricted, according to local news portals.
Earlier in the morning, State Minister for Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, “The 4G internet services will resume at 3:00 pm today.”
The minister said this following a meeting with the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) building on Sunday morning.
He said they have a plan to introduce 5G services soon.
Palak also informed that mobile internet users of all mobile operators will get 5 gigabytes of data for three days as a bonus after the resumption.
On July 17, the government shut down mobile internet to stop the spread of fake news on social media.
In light of the current crisis in the country and to stop the spread of fake news on social media, the government shut down mobile internet, Palak said.
