The authorities of Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC) in Demra claimed that their three students were killed in a clash with students of Kabi Nazrul Government College and Suhrawardy College on Monday.

In a statement, the authorities said more than a hundred students and teachers were injured in the clash.

They also sought interference from the government on the issue, local news portals said.

According to bdnews24.com, clashes broke out between the students of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, and Kabi Nazrul Government College earlier on the day.

A siege programme was announced on Sunday following the death of Mollah College student Abhijit at Dhaka National Medical College. The programme, dubbed “Super Sunday”, resulted in widespread vandalism at Dhaka National Medical and Suhrawardy College nearby by students of Mollah College and other colleges.

Students at Nazrul College were sitting for their first-year undergraduate exams at the Suhrawardy College centre. The exam was suspended partway through for security reasons amid the unrest.

In protest of the attacks and looting, students at Suhrawardy College and Nazrul College announced a “Mega Monday” protest programme.

As part of the programme, students from different departments at Suhrawardy College led separate marches that ended at the campus courtyard. They then marched together to Nazrul College.

When the Nazrul College principal asked for calm over the megaphone, the students of the two colleges disregarded him. They then led a protest march towards Mollah College in Jatrabari, where they launched an attack. A clash then began with students of Mollah College.

Video shared on social media showed several people falling to the ground after being beaten badly amid the violence. Glass and structures in front of Mollah College were also damaged.
