The distribution of monthly allowances for the families of martyrs of the July-August uprising and the injured is expected to begin in March, the chief adviser's press wing announced on Thursday.
At a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, deputy press secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder shared the information received from the relevant ministry, which hopes to initiate the disbursement by March.
Press secretary Shafiqul Alam elaborated on the support measures for the victims.
He said the families of all 834 martyrs, whose names were published in an official gazette, will receive one-time financial assistance of Tk 3.0 million each.
The payment will be disbursed in two phases: Tk 1.0 million in fiscal year (FY) 2024-25 through national savings certificates and Tk 2.0 million in FY26.
Additionally, each martyr's family will receive a monthly allowance of Tk 20,000. Capable members of the families will also be given priority in government and semi-government jobs.
Mr Alam further explained that the injured participants of the student-mass uprising have been classified into three categories-A, B and C-based on the severity of their wounds. According to the classification, they will receive different levels of financial support and benefits.
Category 'A' includes 493 severely injured individuals who are unable to live independently as they continue to require significant medical support.
These individuals will receive one-time financial assistance of Tk 0.5 million, which will be paid in two instalments-Tk 0.2 million each in FY25 through a bank cheque and Tk 0.3 million in FY26.
In addition to this lump sum, each individual will receive a monthly allowance of Tk 20,000 for life, along with ongoing medical care at public hospitals.
The government will also ensure treatment at home and abroad if recommended by the medical board.
These individuals will be entitled to rehabilitation and training programmes, and will also receive identity cards that grant them access to various government facilities.
In category 'B', the press secretary said, a total of 908 severely injured July fighters would receive Tk 0.3 million in aid for one time.
Of the amount, each wounded individual will get Tk 0.1 million in FY25 through a bank cheque and Tk 0.2 million in FY26.
They will also get a monthly allowance of Tk 15,000, necessary training apart from receiving ID cards to help them avail different government facilities.
In category 'C', according to Mr Alam, 10,648 injured fighters, who have recovered from their injuries after receiving treatment, will receive one-time financial assistance of Tk 0.1 million each.
They will also be eligible for a monthly allowance of Tk 10,000 in addition to the provision of rehabilitation and ID cards.
CA's senior assistant press secretary Foyez Ahammad was also present at the briefing.
