Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Sunday that her goal is to improve the condition of the people of the country.

"My goal is to change the fate of the people of Bangladesh," she said in her introductory speech at a function in Tungipara in her home district of Gopalganj.

The premier was exchanging greetings and views with local leaders and members of the Awami League and its associate bodies, public representatives, and local people at the AL office here on the occasion of Eid-ul Azha. She is now on a two-day visit to the district, according to UNB.

Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the ruling Awami League, said her government has made massive progress in the country through the implementation of different programmes, including "My House, My Firm", community clinics, Digital Bangladesh, "My Village, My Town," and reaching electricity to every house.

"Now everyone sees Bangladesh as a role model for development," she said.

Hasina, who is an MP from Tungipara-Kotalipara constituency, credited her constituents for shouldering her own responsibility regarding the constituency, which made it possible for her to give more time and work for the entire country.

Then the AL chief listened to the local leaders of the party and public representatives, particularly regarding the development in her constituency.

When Hasina expressed her desire to retire from politics on the plea of getting old, the local people requested that she not go on retirement now as they wanted to see her as the next prime minister for the sake of the welfare of the country.

They wished that Sheikh Hasina would be the next prime minister and reiterated their commitments to work for the AL in the next general election.

Sheikh Helal Uddin, MP, and Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel were among those present at the function.

Tungipara AL president Sheikh Abul Bashar Khair was present on the dais while its general secretary, Md Babul Sheikh conducted the meeting.

Earlier on Saturday, the AL chief exchanged Eid greetings with local leaders and workers of the Awami League and its associate bodies, as well as local public representatives, at the Kotalipara Upazila AL office.

She also opened the newly constructed building for the Kotalipara AL office and planted three saplings of fruit, wood, and herbs on the office premises there.

PM Hasina is scheduled to return to Dhaka on Sunday.
