The government is planning to establish a separate university for the seven major government colleges in Dhaka, which may be named 'July 36 University'. The name was proposed by the committee headed by the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Professor SMA Fayez. However, the final decision will depend on student approval.

Professor Fayez, along with three other members of the committee, held a meeting with Education Adviser Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud on Thursday, where the proposal for this name was discussed.

“We considered several names, but ‘July 36 University’ particularly stood out. The education adviser also appreciated it. If the students accept the name, it can be finalised,” said the UGC chairman.

The seven government colleges under this initiative include Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women's College, Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College. There are about 200,000 students and more than 1,000 teachers in these colleges.
