There is no scope to further increase the minimum wage of garment workers, said Convener of Garment Workers Coordination Council Shahjahan Khan on Friday.

The garment workers who are still on their movement for further wage hike simply express political stance of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), he observed.

"The Prime Minister (PM) has fixed garment workers' minimum wage recently. But some people are now trying to fish in the troubled waters at the BNP's instigation. They want to destroy the country's garment sector," he said at a press briefing at the National Press Club in the city on the day.

The minimum wage the Prime Minister has declared recently has been accepted by the general garment workers, he maintained.

He called upon the workers to join their works for the interest of the country.

Mr Khan, a former shipping minister and also a member of parliament, called upon the garment workers not to pay attention to mislead information and message as it would destroy their source of bread and butter.

He expressed shock at the death of garment workers and conveyed sympathies to the bereaved family members.
