Not everything possible now, says Advisor Nahid on Titumir protests

Nahid Islam, information and broadcasting advisor to the interim government, has urged the students protesting for the upgrading of Government Titumir College to a university to be patient and not to cause public suffering.
“Many things are not possible at this moment,” he said on Monday
“The interim government is trying to solve this problem.”
Nahid, a leader of the student movement that ousted the Awami League government and who later became an advisor in the interim government, made the remarks while visiting Jagannath Hall at Dhaka University for the Saraswati Puja festivities.
“I would also urge the students of Titumir College to be patient. The government is sincere and aware of its responsibilities towards their educational life and educational institutions. However, at this moment, it may not be possible to do many things. Let us keep that in mind without causing public suffering. Hopefully, good things will happen for everyone.”
“I think the students should consider the situation with sensitivity. When students took to the streets with reasonable demands, the people supported them. We look at any demand in a positive light. We are trying to do whatever is reasonable and practical during this time.”
The advisor said the issue of the seven government colleges affiliated with Dhaka University had turned into a complex problem for a long time.
“A wrong decision taken in the past on education has affected the lives of thousands of students. The interim government has been trying to solve the problem of the seven colleges from the beginning. Every college is being discussed with the necessary priority. It may lead to a positive solution. The process is ongoing.”
Students at Titumir College are on their sixth day of protests for a list of demands, including the upgrading of the institution to a university. The protesters have blocked roads in the Dhaka North City Corporation and organised hunger strikes to push for their demands.
