Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said on Saturday that the number of dengue patients being detected every day in DSCC areas is now between 50 and 60.
He disclosed it to the media after inaugurating a programme of public involvement in curbing the source of aedes mosquitoes that are responsible for dengue in the Zigatola area (Ward# 14, red zone) in the capital.
"We have been keeping our efforts to curb the source of aedes mosquitoes. And for this reason the number of dengue patients is now under control in Dhaka south city corporation area," he claimed.
Mentioning the reports made by the Directorate of Health Services, he said that the number of dengue patients in the capital is now stable.
"As per daily monitoring reports, we have observed that between 50 and 60 dengue patients are being detected each day," he stated. "So, we think that we have been able to check dengue patients. But our efforts will continue so that the number of dengue patients will not increase further," he maintained.
Fazle Noor Taposh said that the number of dengue patients detected daily will decrease further if all become conscious about dengue.
"Patients above 10 were detected in ward # 14 and ward # 16 during last the week's review. So we have marked and declared these two wards as red zones," he mentioned.
Mr Taposh further said that they have been maintaining their efforts to creating public awareness about dengue.
"So, we (corporation) along with local people, members of Red Crescent and Awami League activists have been working to ensure cleanliness at houses and other establishments to prevent dengue," he mentioned. Local ward councillors and high officials were present, among others.
