More than 50,000 Bangladeshi nationals have been granted amnesty in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) between July and December.

Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, the spokesperson for Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), shared this information during a weekly press briefing on Thursday.

Alam said that the UAE government had announced the amnesty programme, effective from July 1 to December 31, to provide irregular or undocumented workers an opportunity to regularise their status or return to their home countries without penalties.

"During this period, workers who were irregular or had become undocumented were given the chance to secure new employment and legalize their status. According to information received from UAE authorities, over 50,000 Bangladeshi nationals have already availed themselves of this amnesty," said the MoFA spokesperson.

"We urge all Bangladeshi nationals who are still undocumented or in an irregular situation in the UAE to take advantage of this amnesty and either legalize their status or return home without any penalties," said Alam.
