The overall progress of the Padma bridge, the country's largest infrastructure project, is 67 per cent complete, Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.

The core structure of the bridge has also reached 76 per cent completion, he told the media at the Bridges Division around 11:00am on Monday.

The 6.15-kilometre Padma bridge started becoming visible for the first time with the installation of the first of ts 41 spans, each of which has a 150-metre length, in October 2017, local media reports say.

So far, 12 spans of the bridge have been established and the 13th will be installed in one or two days, said Quader.

Once the construction of the Padma bridge, which started in December 2015, is done, it is expected to increase the growth of GDP (gross domestic product) by 1.2 per cent.
