Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged people to stand up against those who have destroyed the development brought about by the government during the quota reform protests.
The premier’s call came during her visit to the Mirpur-10 metro rail station in Dhaka at 9am on Thursday. The station is among two on the metro rail line attacked and vandalised amid the anti-quota demonstrations, according to bdnews24.com.
“The people of the country have to stand against the saboteurs who destroyed the development implemented by the government. The people must ensure that those who created this chaos will be brought to justice,” she said.
The prime minister reiterated her pledge to ensure hassle-free transport for commuters. She said the Awami League government is dedicated to building an economically prosperous country.
“The people shed their blood to gain our country’s independence. That blood cannot be allowed to go to waste. What kind of mentality attacks the infrastructure that makes people’s lives easier?”
“The metro rail brought relief to residents of Dhaka exhausted by traffic. I am unable to accept the damage to this transport service built using modern technologies.”
Hasina said, “Quota protesters have received more than what they demanded. Why are they still protesting? Their demands also change frequently, creating opportunities for more destruction.”
“The country has seen unimaginable development over the past 16 years. The people of the country are enjoying its benefits. Why is there so much anger towards these things? The destruction of state resources will cause suffering to the people. Have the common people considered that?”
