PM condemns attack on Zafar Iqbal

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has condemned the attack on popular author Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology in Sylhet on Saturday afternoon.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to track down the culprits involved in the attack and bring them to book.

The PM, he said, is enquiring regularly about Zafar Iqbal, who is undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, according to BSS.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also condemned the attack.

Meanwhile, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services Dr Ehteshamul Hoque Dulal said Zafar Iqbal is out of danger now

A bdnews24.com report said, the health official is following his condition from Dhaka.

Zafar Iqbal, a teacher of SUST's Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department, was stabbed by an unidentified youth on SUST campus.

The attacker stabbed on the head of the professor from behind with a sharp weapon at Mukta Mancha on the campus.

Zafar Iqbal was attending a programme there organised by Electronic and Electrical Engineering department of the university.

He was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital immediately after the incident. The attacker was caught red-handed.
