Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday greeted all freedom fighters of the country on the occasion of the 53rd Victory Day, reports UNB.
Like previous years, the premier sent flowers, fruits and sweets to war-wounded freedom fighters at Martyred and War-wounded Freedom Fighters’ Rehabilitation Centre (Muktijoddha Tower-1) on Gaznavi Road at Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, her Assistant Private Secretary-2 Gazi Hafizur Rahman Liku and Assistant Press Secretary ABM Sarwer-E-Alom Sarker handed over the items to the freedom fighters this morning, said an official release from the Prime Minister's Press Wing.
The freedom fighters thanked the prime minister for remembering them on every national day and festival including Independence Day, Victory Day, the two Eids and Pahela Baishakh.
They also expressed gratitude to the premier for undertaking major steps for their rehabilitation including construction of Muktijoddha Tower-1, a 13-storey residential and commercial building, in Mohammadpur.
The war heroes and their family members wished Sheikh Hasina good health and a long life.
They hoped that the Awami League, which led the Liberation War, would win in the next national election under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
The freedom fighters and their families will remain well-protected if the daughter of the architect of independent Bangladesh and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is in power, they said.
The nation is celebrating the 53rd Victory Day today, marking the day when the country was liberated from the Pakistani occupation forces after the nine-month-long War of Liberation.
