PM opens BPO’s digital financial service

She releases stamps marking 49th Independence and National Day

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally opened Bangladesh Post Office’s digital financial service, Nagad, at a function at Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.

‘Nagad’ is the newly-shaped financial services of the existing Postal Cash Card and the Electronic Money Transfer System (EMTS) services.

According to BSS, the service is an expanded digital financial service which is capable of making speedy financial transaction through various digital channels like apps, mobile phones, ATM, POS terminals, NFC-enabled devices, chips, electronically-enabled cards, biometric devices, tabs.

The Prime Minister opened the Postal Cash Card and EMTS services on March 26 in 2010.

Bangladesh Post Office introduced Postal Cash Card on the basis of the main policy – ‘Financial inclusion of the people deprived of the banking facilities’.

During the function, Sheikh Hasina also released a commemorative postage stamp, a first-day cover of Taka 10 and a data card of Taka 5 marking the 49th Independence and National Day.

The stamp, first-day cover and data card would be sold from Philatelic Bureau of Dhaka GPO on Tuesday and those would be available at other GPOs and head post offices across the country later.

There is also an arrangement for special canceller in four GPOs to be used for the first-day cover.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar, Secretary-in-Charge of the Post and Telecommunications Ministry Ashoke Kumar Biswash and Director General of Bangladesh Post Office Sushanta Kumar Mandal were present on the occasion, among others.
