The BNP's central office in Dhaka's Naya Paltan has been cordoned off after a day of political violence stemming from the opposition group's antigovernment rally.
Police secured the premises with yellow crime scene tape on Sunday, and the collapsible gate remains locked, reports bdnews24.com.
A significant police presence was established on both sides of the office.
No BNP leaders or activists have been seen around the office or on the road through Naya Paltan since the morning.
CID ESTABLISHES CRIME SCENE
The Criminal Investigation Department spent two hours gathering evidence outside the BNP office in Naya Paltan.
A CID team arrived at the scene around 10 am. The gathered evidence will be dispatched to a chemical laboratory for further analysis, according to CID personnel.
"We have retrieved 10 types of evidence, which will be sent to the lab for examination. The chemical lab's report will reveal the types of explosives present," said Assistant Deputy Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahman from the Crime Scene Unit.
However, he could not specify when the report would be ready.
The Crime Scene Unit was observed collecting evidence from the debris of various objects scattered across the street.
Violence erupted during the BNP rally in front of the central office of Naya Paltan on Saturday, spreading from the Kakrail intersection to other areas, including Shantinagar, Bijoy Nagar, Fakirapool, Arambagh, and the Dainik Bangla intersection.
A policeman and a Jubo Dal leader were killed while several others, including journalists, were injured in the clashes.
In the wake of Saturday's deadly clashes, the BNP called a day-long general strike to protest the "violent crackdown" on party loyalists by the authorities.
Despite the general strike, normal traffic was observed in Naya Paltan, with rickshaws, cars, and autorickshaws dominating the streets. Public transport, however, was noticeably sparse, and commercial stalls were closed.
Kakrail's Nightingale intersection, where the remnants of Saturday's violence lingered, was at a standstill.
