Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam has ordered on-duty officers to take immediate action after a general diary (GD) is filed at any police station.
At the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s December crime review meeting on Monday, he said: “Action must be initiated within an hour of the GD being filed.
“There can be no delay in the investigation.”
The meeting took place at the Rajarbagh Police Lines auditorium, where the IGP called on police personnel to perform their duties with integrity and dedication reports bdnews24.com.
“We must exert full effort to end extortion, muggings, and murders,” he said.
A press release issued after the meeting confirmed that the IGP has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards muggers and extortionists.
IGP Badiul said, "Everyone must carry out their duties with a sense of responsibility and enthusiasm.
“Only by working together will we rebuild the public’s trust in the police force.”
He instructed that progress in case investigations should be further enhanced.
The police chief emphasised that recovering stolen mobile phones must be given top priority.
"Places where stolen mobiles are sold must be identified and dealt with strictly," he said.
