The police are returning to duty in their respective units on Thursday, three days after the city's police stations were left unmanned following the resignation of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday due to widespread student and public protests.
The police headquarters has issued an order that All officers and forces of all metropolitan, district, naval, railway, and highway police stations must report to their respective police lines by Thursday evening, according to media outlets report.
The directive states that security must be ensured for Rajarbagh Police Lines, PMO, Armed Police Battalion, all metropolitan and district police lines, other police establishments, and all specialised police units.
It further says that the chain of command and discipline of the force must be restored.
The police headquarters has demanded the burial and cremation of on-duty sacrificed police officers during the protest must be completed as soon as possible, and that injured officers will be provided with proper medical treatment."
The newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Md Mainul Islam expressed his dismay over the role of the police in the student movement.
