AL brings out sudden procession at midnight in Chattogram

Some activists of deposed Awami League (AL) brought out a sudden procession at Jamal Khan Road in the port city of Chattogram at midnight on Friday.

The procession was brought out around 1.30 am after two and a half months of the ouster of the Awami League government on August 5 last.

Sources said a group of 20 to 30 activists of Awami League, and its front organisations Jubo League and Chhatra League suddenly brought out the procession in Jamal Khan Road area under Kotwali thana of the port city at 1:30 am.

The processionists marched only Jamal Khan Road and left the area within a moment.

They chanted slogans like 'Jay Bangla, Jay Bangabandhu' in the procession.

Locals said some people suddenly brought out a procession at around 1.30 to 2 am. Most of the participants in the procession were young men.

Riding a few motorcycles, they chanted various slogans. Later, they left the spot within a few minutes. They fled towards the house of absconding Awami League leader AZM Nasir and his brothers at Anderkillah.

Coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Chattogram Mohammad Rasel Ahmed condemning the role of law enforcers said the law enforcers are yet to arrest absconding Awami League leader and former city mayor AZM Nasir and his brothers Shamim Uddin and Saifuddin who are giving shelter to the Chhatra League and Jubo League men.

He called upon all the students to unite and come back to the streets regardless of party affiliation.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotowali thana Fazlul Quader Chowdhury said that a sudden procession was brought out by the activists of Awami League and its front associations at Jamal Khan Road in the port city at around 1.30 am.

He added, "Police have already arrested one person in this connection."
