AL candidate Khaleque wins Khulna city polls for third time

Awami League's mayoral candidate Talukdar Abdul Khaleque has won the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) elections to become the city’s mayor for the third time.

Khaleque got 154,825 votes in all 289 voting centres, while his nearest rival, Abdul Awal, from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, bagged 60,064 votes, according to private television channels.

The election results were announced at the Khulna District Art Academy auditorium on Monday night.

Earlier, vote count began after an eight-hour voting that continued from 8am to 4pm.

Awami League candidate Khaleque was also elected KCC mayor in elections in 2008 and 2018.
