Army to be deployed, BGCS declares full panel

The Election Commission (EC) of Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) has decided to deploy army personnel on the campus as a striking force to ensure security during the upcoming Central Students' Union and hall union elections, scheduled for September 11.

JU Proctor and EC Member-Secretary, Prof. A. K. M. Rashidul Alam, confirmed the matter to the FE.

"To ensure safety and conduct the JU elections smoothly, the administration has taken several measures. Discussions have been held with the nearby institutions to strengthen campus security, and the Army will be deployed as a striking force to prevent any untoward incidents."

The deployment will cover three days - the day before the election, the election day, and the day after, he added.

JU Registrar A. B. M. Azizur Rahman also confirmed that the university administration sent a letter to the Chief of Army Staff on August 13, following a written request from the EC regarding army deployment.

"Similar requests were also sent to the Inspector General of Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs," he added.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BGCS) declared its full panel, titled "Shikkharthi Oikko Forum", at the university's central Shaheed Minar on Friday.

Arifuzzaman Uzzal has been nominated for Vice President, while Abu Tauhid Md. Siaam will contest as General Secretary. Zia Uddin Ayaan and Maliha Namlah have been nominated for Assistant General Secretary (male and female respectively).

Other key nominations include Farhana Binte Jigar Farina for Secretary of Education and Research, Sazzad Hosen for Secretary of Environment and Nature Conservation, Marjiur Rahman Chowdhury for Secretary of Literature and Publications, and Raid Hossain for Cultural Secretary. Ring Yong Murong and Sabikunnahar Lubna have been nominated as Co-Sports Secretary (male and female respectively).

In addition, Naqib Al Mahmud Arnab will contest as Secretary for Information Technology and Library, Ahsan Labib as Secretary for Social Services and Human Resource Development, with Nadia Rahman Onbesha and Kazi Mehrab as Co-Secretary (female and male respectively). Nasim Al Tareq has been nominated for Secretary of Health and Food Security, and Nahid Hasan Emon for Secretary of Transport and Communication.

The panel also includes six executive members: three males - Sadat, Tahsin Ahmed, and Muhammad Ali, and three females - Tanzila Tasnim, Afia Ibnat, and Pusti Khan.
