A Dhaka court has placed BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and four others on a three-day remand each in a case filed over an attack on Setu Bhaban in Dhaka’s Banani amid quota protest violence.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sheikh Sadi passed the order on Thursday after Abu Sayeed Miah, an inspector of Detective Branch of Police and also investigation officer of the case, produced them with a 7-day remand appeal, according to bdnews24.com.
The other individuals remanded are BNP Central Committee's Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Organising Secretary Qazi Sayedul Alam Babul, its Dhaka North City unit Member Secretary Aminul Haque, and Bagerhat district unit Convener MA Salam.
On the same day, defence lawyers Masud Ahammed Talukder, Syed Zainul Abedin Mezbah, and Abdur Razzaq filed bail petitions seeking to cancel the remand.
The state opposed these petitions.
After hearing both sides, the court granted a 3-day remand for each accused.
Earlier, on Jul 28, a court had issued a five-day remand for Rizvi and Nurul Haque Nur, president of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, in a separate case of sabotage at Kazi Para Metro Rail Station under Kafrul Police Station.
