Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the interim government could not make any visible efforts to help the flood-affected people.

People have still been suffering from the recent floods and waterlogging across the country, he said.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan central office in the capital on Sunday.

"Visible efforts on part of the government are yet to be taken to mitigate the sufferings of the people affected by recent floods in Sherpur, Netrokona, greater Mymensingh and the country's northern areas and also from waterlogging due to heavy rains in Kustia, Jessore and Khulna districts."

He mentioned that the government and the private organisations previously conducted relief and rescue activities in the country's eastern areas during floods.

However, such humanitarian activities are not visible at present, he said.

He put forward BNP's demands to the interim government for the welfare of the flood-affected people.

The demands are: preparing a complete list of the farmers who really became affected due to floods, providing them assistance until the new season of harvesting comes next year, providing all logistics supports including fertiliser, seeds, pesticides and others to the farmers without cost and providing interest free bank loan and others assistance to the poultry farmers to help restart their businesses aiming to offset their financial losses.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also suggested providing financial supports to those whose houses have been damaged during the floods.

While addressing another event on Sunday, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the deposed autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina has been hatching conspiracy sitting in India with the support of the government of the neighbouring country.
