Three months have passed, people won’t give much more time: Saki

Three months after the interim government took office, the safety of citizens' lives and property has still not been ensured, according to Ganosamhati Andolan’s Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki.

“This situation cannot continue. The safety of every citizen of Bangladesh must be ensured. Solving these problems is your [interim government’s] responsibility,” he said during a rally outside the National Museum in Shahbagh on Friday, marking the death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani.

"If you cannot do this, then why did you take responsibility? Three months have passed since taking office, and people will not give you much more time," he added.

He highlighted that over the past 15 years, political parties, particularly, have been protesting against 'fascism'.

“Since 2019, we have clearly said that the existing state system has turned into an autocratic fascist regime under Sheikh Hasina. The 2014 election was held without voting, and the 2018 election took place in the dead of night. The 2024 election is a mockery,” said Saki.

“With all of this, the state, the Constitution, and the laws have been transformed into a system where no future election can be fair,” he added.

Saki called for a “new political arrangement” in Bangladesh, urging all political parties to unite, reports bdnews24.com.

He said, “The foundation of this new political system must be a democratic constitution. The state structure and laws must be reformed, repaired, and transformed to hold free and fair elections. Political unity is crucial to fulfil the dreams of the student, worker, and common people.”

He continued, “Today, all political parties face a challenge: can they turn the people’s dreams into reality? If we want to make the people’s dreams come true and avoid seeing anyone as fascist, we must remain united.”

Saki also reminded the gathering that over 1,600 students and workers had been martyred during the movement, more than 500 had been blinded, and over 50,000 had been injured.

He added that no Constitution could be democratic if the working class was excluded from it and if the people did not have power.

The leader warned that fascism would rise again if the people were not held accountable for their actions.
