Bangladesh is faced with a power shortage as India's Adani power plant in Godda, Jharkhand, which supplies 1,500 megawatts of electricity to the country, has shut down completely.
The plant went out of production as a whole at 9 am on Friday after the closure of its second unit due to a technical glitch, officials concerned from Bangladesh said.
The first unit of the plant, which has been offline for routine maintenance, is expected to resume power generation on July 5, they said.
However, the officials concerned said, the timeline for the second unit's return to production remains uncertain, though the company is working to resolve the issue.
They noted the country was already in a touch of a shortage of production due to maintenance shutdowns of the first Adani plant unit and a 622 MW Payra plant unit. The sudden, complete shutdown of the Adani plant just worsened this.
Khandkar Mokammel Hossain, a member of the BPDB, was quoted to have told Prothom Alo that the country faced a power shortage with the sudden complete shutdown of the Adani power plant.
