Pre-election monitoring team will visit BD in October, says US ambassador

A pre-election monitoring team, comprised of experienced individuals in election-related matters, from the US will visit Bangladesh in October, US Ambassador Peter Hass said on Tuesday.

He informed the media about the development after a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal, local newspaper reports.

“The United States expects a free and fair election in Bangladesh. They desire an election where the people of Bangladesh can freely choose their leaders,” Haas said during the media briefing.

He, however, said he could not currently provide the detailed schedule of the team.

Haas reached the Election Commission (EC) office around 11:10am to hold the meeting with the CEC.
