The foreign ministry has formed a five-member committee to probe the sudden fire alarm signalled during a meeting between political parties and the National Consensus Commission at the Foreign Service Academy.

The fire-safety system installed at the academy was activated at approximately 12:20 pm on Monday, according to a statement from the foreign ministry.

"In an immediate response, the employees on duty at the academy inspected the possible source of the alarm and investigated the cause, but found no smoke, or, fire in the initial investigation," it said.

However, the commission was formed to investigate the matter further to ensure overall safety.

The investigation committee comprises the Foreign Service Academy director as the convener and representatives from the Fire Service and Civil Defence Department and the Public Works Department.

The committee has been instructed to submit an investigation report within the next 24 hours.

During a briefing after the meeting, Prof Ali Riaz, vice-chair of the consensus commission, told reporters that he already informed the Foreign Service Academy to look into the matter.
