Students and job seekers protesting against discriminatory quotas in government jobs withdrew their blockade at Shahbagh after one hour on Friday.
They withdrew the blockade at 6:20 pm, allowing traffic to resume.
Prior to the withdrawal, movement coordinators announced plans to unveil a new programme on Saturday evening.
Earlier at 5pm, protesters blocked Shahbagh after gathering in front of the central library of Dhaka University at 4 pm and then marching through various campus streets.
