Misunderstandings cleared up, Prottoy scheme to be effective from July 2025: Quader

The misunderstandings regarding the Universal Pension Scheme have been cleared up and the Prottoy scheme for the public university teachers will be effective from next July, said Awami League General Secretary and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader.

All government and autonomous institutions will join the scheme from July 1, 2025, he announced at a press conference at the Dhanmondi office of the Awami League president on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Quader met representatives of the public university teachers who called an indefinite work abstention to demand the scrapping of the Prottoy universal pension scheme.

A delegation of 13 teacher leaders, including FBUTA Convenor Md Akhtarul Islam, Dhaka University Teachers’ Association General Secretary Prof Zeenat Huda, and DUTA Joint General Secretary Prof Md Abdur Rahim, expressed their satisfaction after talks with the minister.

“We will discuss the matter with other leaders of the federation and make our decision", Prof Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, the secretary general of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association said.
