Rain likely on Eid day: Met office

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rain on Eid-ul-Azha, caused by the ongoing monsoon winds and a low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which may dampen festivities, reports bdnews24.com.

Although the monsoon season is technically over, the seasonal winds are still active.

Some parts of the country experienced heat waves in the first few days of the Bangla month of Bhadra, but rain since Monday has brought some respite from the unpleasant heat.

Meteorologists expect the rain to continue for the next few days.

Bangladesh will celebrate Eid-ul-Azha tomorrow (Wednesday). Muslims will attend Eid prayers that morning and sacrifice animals in the traditional Korbani ritual.

Though morning rains may hamper the prayer service and sacrifices, rain in the afternoon is often welcomed on Eid day as it washes away the waste left after the animals are slaughtered.

A low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is moving towards the coast which may get intensify, Senior Meteorologist Abdul Mannan told the news agency.

“It has already been raining in various parts of the country and may rain more on Wednesday, Eid day, if this continues. In that case, the southern part of the country, especially Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet and Chattogram may face light to medium rainfall.”

Some areas may also experience heavy rain, the Meteorological Department said.
