Most of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka, has seen showers under the influence of the active monsoon wind at the end of the rainy season. Dhaka saw heavy rain overnight on Sunday. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department says this rain may continue for another three to four days.
Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman said on Monday morning, “In the past 24 hours (from 6:00 am on Sunday to 6:00 am on Monday), Dhaka saw 62mm of rain, which is considered heavy rain.”
He said, “This trend will continue for the next three or four days. Even if the rain isn’t heavy, these next few days could see rain once or twice during the day.”
If an area sees between 44mm and 88mm over a 24-hour period, it is considered to be heavy rain. If it sees over 88mm of rain in a day, it is considered very heavy rain.
After the overnight rain on Sunday, Monday morning brought cloudy skies to the capital, with scattered showers here and there. The rain has even led to waterlogging in some areas of the city.
According to the BMD’s forecast for the 24 hours from 6:00 pm on Sunday, most of the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions as well as many places in the Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions are likely to see rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds.
