Adilur Rahman Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, on Monday called for revoking the quota system in Rajdhani Unnayan Katri-pakkha's (RAJUK) plot allotment in the capital.

Instructing the government's urban development agency to eliminate all kinds of quota, the adviser questioned about the reason behind the inability to allocate lands through lottery among the people concerned.

The adviser made the remarks while addressing a discussion at RAJUK Auditorium, organised by the ministry to observe the World Habitat Day.

Hamidur Rahman Khan, secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, presided over the programme. Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Water Resources; Gwyn Lewis, UN resident coordinator in Bangladesh, and Major General (retd) Md Siddiqur Rahman Sarker, chairman at RAJUK spoke at the event, among others.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan said specific action plans are needed to make Dhaka liveable.

"Developing mega projects is not enough, greenery should be increased. There should be open space, seating arrangement, and youth sports opportunities."
