The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Thursday called on its supporters to refrain from activities that infringe on personal privacy, following allegations of phone searches during its "Total Sit-in" programme in Dhaka.
"We do not support anything that violates personal privacy," said Rifat Rashid, one of the movement coordinators, in a statement released Thursday afternoon.
"Such actions only revive old examples of discrimination in a new form. Therefore, do not engage in activities, such as phone checks, that disrupt the normal course of a citizen's personal life."
The Movement emphasised that protecting personal freedoms is essential for building a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
"We call on everyone to take a peaceful stand across the country to resist the conspirators," the statement read. "Stay on the streets to ensure that normal public life becomes more beautiful and orderly."
