Sarjis Alam, one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said the attackers who raised their hands on the intern doctors should be punished.

He said, “The safety of my doctor brothers should be ensured. Those who raised their hands on them should be punished.”

The coordinator said this in a video post on the social media platform Facebook on Sunday, according to media reports.

“If the hospital authorities or any doctor is responsible for the death of a patient, s/he should also be investigated and prosecuted,” he said.

Doctors across the country on Sunday announced a shutdown of all public and private hospitals demanding justice and heightened security after the intern doctors were beaten at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday.

A student from a private university was admitted to the DMCH on Friday night and died there on Saturday morning. The family and loved ones of the patient then beat up the intern doctors.

After the incident, the doctors started the work stoppage since Sunday morning.

The doctors demanded that those involved should be identified using CCTV footage and punished.

Hasnat Abdullah, a coordinator of the quota movement, has requested the law enforcement agencies to take appropriate action in this regard.

He came up with the call on Facebook Live adding that he also believes the doctors should be allowed to work in their own way.
