Saudi Arabia will construct 410 shelters through King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre for Rohingya refugees who were affected by recent fire incidents at the Balukhali Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.

Addressing a humanitarian programme on Tuesday, Saudi Ambassador to Dhaka Essa bin Yousef Al Duhailan said, “Saudi Arabia is supporting the international efforts for the repatriation of the Rohingya since the beginning.”

“One of the priority issues for Saudi Arabia in Bangladesh is to repatriate the Rohingya people to their homeland with dignity and security,” he added.

The programme was organised at the embassy to provide shelters for the Rohingya people and local host communities who were affected by the recent fire incident in Rohingya camps.

The Saudi Arabian envoy also highlighted different activities of the project initiated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre for the prevention of blindness among Bangladeshis.

“Saudi Arabia always extends its hands to the people all over the world and for the Muslim ummah and in Bangladesh in particular,” he said.

He informed that Saudi Arabia provided more than $600 million to Bangladesh for different humanitarian projects through its King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.

“The centre conducts its operation throughout the world and it runs 44 projects in Bangladesh,” the envoy said.
