Science, arts and commerce streams to be reinstated in secondary education

The Ministry of Education has issued a directive to revert to the science, arts, and commerce streams in secondary education.

The assessment process will be aligned with the National Curriculum 2012 as much as possible, it said in the directive on Sunday.

The decision comes after an evaluation of the National Curriculum 2022, which stated that based on field-level experiences regarding the National Curriculum 2022, stakeholder opinions, research, and survey data, the curriculum is deemed unfeasible due to various practical issues such as a lack of necessary preparation among teachers, unclear and negative perceptions about the subject matter and assessment methods, and a significant lack of institutional capacity.
