Two rival factions of former coordinators from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Wednesday afternoon scuffled over the announcement of a new student organisation.

The incident occurred in front of Madhur Canteen on the Dhaka University campus, where the groups exchanged counter-slogans, leading to a physical altercation.

The scuffle erupted as a group of private university students protested, demanding greater representation in the central committee of the newly formed organisation.

The announcement of the new student organisation, named Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad, was initially scheduled for 3 pm but that did not happen due to tensions.

At one stage, after 4 pm. leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement arrived at Madhur Canteen and announced the new student organisation and its leadership.

After the announcement, they took out a procession and marched towards Mall Chattar, where a second round of scuffles broke out with a group of students who claimed they were deprived of key positions.

Witnesses said several students were injured during the scuffles.
