The government has agreed to establish separate administrative facilities for the seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University, press secretary to the chief adviser Shafiqul Alam said on Thursday.

Addressing a media briefing, Alam stated that this decision was reached during a meeting between representatives of the colleges' students and a group of advisers led by education adviser Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud. He expressed hope that, following this decision, the students, who have been demonstrating on city streets for several days, would cease their protests.

Alam also mentioned that the government has initiated efforts to enable 18,000 Bangladeshi workers who were unable to travel to Malaysia due to time constraints to do so. Verification of these workers has begun, and he expressed optimism that they would be able to travel to Malaysia soon.

In conveying a cabinet decision, the press secretary stated that law adviser Asif Nazrul has been assigned to handle the financial and administrative responsibilities of the Speaker of Parliament, as the position is currently vacant following the dissolution of Parliament.

In response to a question, he noted that the move to extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, against whom an arrest warrant has been issued by the court, will commence after the verdict is rendered.

The cabinet also decided to address the salary gap between male and female footballers, with Alam adding that the cabinet congratulated the women's team for winning the SAFF football title. Steps will be taken to ensure the overdue salaries of the women footballers are paid, a situation he attributed to issues that arose during the tenure of former Football Federation President Kazi Salahuddin.

When asked about traffic congestion in the city, Shafiqul Alam stated that the government is working diligently to resolve this issue, with Dr Yunus having consulted various experts on the matter.

Additionally, the cabinet approved the draft of the "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of The Gambia and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on Exemption from Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports," as well as the draft of the "Agreement on Maritime Transport Cooperation" under BIMSTEC.

The cabinet also approved the draft of the National Project Evaluation Policy 2024.
