Police have detained a tea stall owner for allegedly raping a seven-year-old child in Ramgarh upazila of Khagrachhari.
Ramgarh Police Station chief Md Moin Uddin said the man was apprehended from Patacchara Bazar in Rasulpur village under Upazila’s No. 2 Patacchara Union, reports bdnews24.com.
The detainee, 53-year-old Md Shahin from Rasulpur village, runs a tea stall in the locality.
Following the incident on Tuesday, the child, a Class 2 student at a madrasa, received first aid at the Ramgarh Upazila Health Complex and was then transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
The girl's father said the incident occurred as his daughter was returning home from the madrasa with a classmate in the afternoon. On the way, Shahin Miah offered food to lure the girl and allegedly raped her. Later, he dropped her off in front of their house on a motorcycle.
When the child's mother and grandmother saw blood on her body and asked her about it, she revealed what had happened, according to her father. Afterwards, they took the girl to Ramgarh Upazila Health Complex.
Roksana Akter, medical officer at Ramgarh Upazila Health Complex, said: “The girl’s condition was serious. Therefore, after providing initial treatment, she was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced care.”
Noting that the detainee admitted to assaulting the child during a preliminary interrogation, OC Moin said her father is preparing to file a case at the police station.
